Magnificent low-growing, wide-spreading annual with a continuous display of massed white flowers all summer through. It is very early flowering, very easy to grow and suitable for exposed cool sites, rockeries, paving and walls. Also good for edging paths and garden borders for contrasting color effect. Flowers summer. Height 3-4 in. Plant in full sun. Colors: White only
Begonias (fibrous) are tender perennials,
grown for their colorful flowers and foliage. Most begonias can be grown outdoors
in pots, in the ground, or in hanging baskets in filtered light and moist, but
well drained soil. The foliage is very attractive, featuring small, cleft
leaves. This plant enjoys filtered light but can take some sun in winter. Soil
should ideally be moist. Begonias grow very well in peat-based compost also.
Likes humidity. Hardy. Does not like cold weather. Pinching tips and pruning
outer stems in the growing season gives a bushier plant, good for hanging
baskets. Remove dead foliage to prevent disease. Colors:
Red, White or Pink
This attractive foliage plant is great for
containers and underplanting. Although coleus will usually survive in sun, the
color of the leaves is enhanced in the shade. Small, insignificant flowers will
appear late summer. Pinch off blooms and growing shoots of young plants to
encourage bushier foliage. It prefers moist but well drained soil. Colors: Mix
only
The foliage of this
plant is very white and fine leafed. Good compact growth. Plant in full sun or
part sun. Deer
Resistant. Color: Silvery/white
Impatiens are best known as summer flowering annuals, also include evergreen perennials and sub-shrubs grown as annuals. Most have bright flowers and succulent stems. They are tender to frost, hardy to a minimum temperature of 50F. Grows 24” to 4’ in height 18” to 24” in width. Prefers sun to partial shade, moist but not wet soil. Blooms early summer to late fall. Colors: Red, White, Pink, Lavender or Mix
Marigolds
are easy to grow and have a long flowering period. Marigolds grow to only
8”-16”. Marigolds can be grown in all
but the coldest climates. Space the
plants 8”-16” apart depending on the variety. Water deeply and regularly,
especially in hot weather. Mulching between plants will help to conserve
moisture. Colors: Yellow
only
Very compact and uniform. Leaves medium green
and ovate, to 3” long with an abundance of tubular flowers, to 2" wide.
Though commonly thought of as a summer annual, works very well as a fall annual
in many warmer areas too. Good disease resistance and weather tolerance aided
by smaller flowers. Part to full sun,
normal soil, late spring to late fall flowering. Colors:
Red, Royal, or White
Portulaca (moss rose) is a small group of low-growing, trailing annuals that produce many brightly colored flowers that open every morning in the sunshine and form a carpet of color. They readily bloom all summer long with little or no care required. Most flowers close up at night, and on cloudy days. These plants love the sun and therefore need a sunny position to be successful. Moss rose grows well in poor, sandy or gravelly soils, that are very well-drained. Plants are drought tolerant, but flowers best with regular watering. Water them during dry spells and feed lightly once in a while. Colors: Mix only
Fast growing, bushy perennial.
Leaves are rough, long and pointy, to 2-1/2". Dense red-lipped, 4"

drought. Ideal for mass plantings and borders where rounded, vertical form is
needed. Grows to 30” in height
to 12” in width. Prefers sun to
partial shade, dry to normal soil.

well drained soil. Prefers little or no lime in soil. Keep soil moist; water in
morning, not mid-day. Plant in shade or

Impatiens
– 12” basket
This is the star of the summer shade garden with its bright flowers and lush foliage. Tolerates more sun in coastal climates. Likes warmth and light, infrequent feeding with a balanced fertilizer. Let the soil dry out just a bit between waterings to encourage compact growth and profuse flowering Colors: Mix only
Geraniums are
classic annuals with bright flowers that bloom all summer long. They are
easy to grow, good natured, will put up with being stuck in anywhere to fill a
gap and still come up smiling! They have a long display of flowers, an even
more extended show of attractive foliage and associate well with other plants
of all kinds. Plant in full sun. Best in rich, moist, well drained soil, high
in organic matter. Moderate frost tolerance. Pinching results in bushier
plants. All varieties tolerate light shade. Geraniums are somewhat
drought-resistant, so avoid over-watering.
Colors: Red, Pink or Lavender
For instant color, plant Impatiens en masse in
shade gardens with Ferns and Hostas, or in containers and hanging baskets.
Excellent as accent container plants. Flowering periods lasts from summer until
