Two Brothers, On Their Way...
Thus began the 1995 Gettysburg show. In keeping with Bellbrook's tradition of
"story-telling", Gettysburg presents the beauty and tragedy of a family torn
apart by war. The opening number depicts the separation of two brothers from one
"family", one fighting in the union army and the other in the confederacy. The
excitement and pagentry of going off to war is evident in the program as we watch the
story unfold.
Soon we find that war is not as glamorous as first thought. Our brother in gray is seen
reflecting on better times, when young ladies were dressed in lavish gowns and formal
dances were all one had to worry about.
Unfortunately, war is ever real and we see our blue and gray brothers in an all-out
battle, ending in the death of our brother from the south. In a scene that made everyone
cry, we see our brother from the north carrying his dead brother in gray off the
battlefield.
The show ends with an expectation of times to come, the excitement of reconcilliation, and
a new country, stronger for having fought the battle. |
