Anatomy of Peace is a symphonic composition by Marvin
Hamlisch commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Association in memory of Emery Reves. The
underlying theme of this "war and peace" composition is summed up in the opening
number:
"Some fear the world, they hear the dissonance and say it always will be. I see
the world as one community that must be joined by one law".
In this marching arrangement, the theme can be heard throughout the cacophony of the
various instrumental sections as they "war" against each other. Eventually, each
section is drawn towards the harmony and strength "peace" brings to the finale.
The visual effects reinforce the theme of world harmony through peace.
